This enhancement is an update from the original Bill of Materials created for UA 5.5. This new enhancement made for 6.0 Significantly enhances the Materials Management and Work Order modules with the ability to enter and build a finished goods inventory from both raw materials and finished goods. The enhancement allows you to specify items as finished goods or raw materials, allows you to build BOM for finished goods, allows you to create and print work orders, it allows you to create exception reports, pick tickets, and BOM’s. This enhancement also has the capability to allow raw materials to be selected from different inventory locations. This enhancement fully utilizes the UA class modules for materials management. Standard UA 6.0 functionality does not have any of the capabilities that this enhancement has.
The sidebar above shows that users have a number of options in which to select an inventory item. New inventory items may be input by typing directly onto the form. Tabs show other available properties such as a Bill of Materials if one exists. Only Finished Goods can have a Bill of Materials and the inventory item must be marked as such for the BOM to display. Clicking on the "BOM" button, takes the user to the "Assemble Bill of Materials" form where the materials making up the Bill of Material can be input or edited (Figure 3).
The "BOM" button displays the same Bill Of Materials tree as the "BOM" tab. "Report" prints a Bill Of Materials parts list (Figure 4).
Work Order Having A Bill of Materials
Work Orders may be generated using Raw Materials and Finished Goods. If the Finished Good has a Bill of Material, the Finished Good can be selected as a Work Order line item. Use this form to add and delete work order line items. Once posted, no further items or locations can be added to the work order. The work order may be built and exception reports or pick tickets run. The Exception Report displays work order parts having insufficient quantities. The Pick Ticket shows work order parts, quantities and locations for successful builds. Clicking on the Inventory Location button (above) allows the user to select specific locations from which to pull component items.
The location of items in inventory is determined on a line-by-line basis. All possible inventory locations, material status and present in-stock quantities for items are displayed in a drop-down list. The user must select a stock location (even if the existing quantity is insufficient or the location is out of stock) or cancel. Canceling pulls the item from the raw materials list being created and returns the user to the main form. The user may then delete that line item and select another or exit the work order without posting. Quantity can be edited in the "Locate Raw Materials" window for Bill of Material items only. Whatever quantity is shown on this form will be pulled from inventory. Inventory Locations with insufficient stock quantities can be selected; however, the Work Order cannot be built until sufficient quantities exist.
Once a Work Order has been posted, it can be accessed via Edit Work Orders for further processing. For example, if the Work Order was not previously build, that function can be performed here. Building the Work Order moves items from their selected inventory locations to a Work-in-Progress (WIP) table where they reside until the Work Order is closed or in the case of an item having a BOM, the Finished Good is put into inventory. Should insufficient quantities exist during building, the entire process will be halted and the user instructed to run an exception report showing the shortages. As before, the Exception Report displays work order parts having insufficient quantities while the Pick Ticket shows work order parts, quantities and locations for successful builds.
In the case of a Bill of Material, once the Finished Good has been completed, it may be added to inventory by clicking on the "Transfer FG" button. The user then has the ability to input the Finished Good, its Layer Status, Bin Location, Quantity and Unit Price. Committing the transaction not only receives the Finished Good into inventory but also removes all component parts from the WIP table. Once the Work Order is completed, it should be Closed. Closing removes the Work Order from the system as well as any inventory items residing in work order or WIP tables. In the event of a cancellation, Closing the Work Order once Built, does not put items back into inventory. The Work Order will still need to be Closed, but the parts will have to be manually returned to inventory via Material Transactions.
Should insufficient quantities exist, the Exception Report displays the item, selected inventory location, quantity currently in stock, quantity required by the Work Order and the calculated shortage.
If
the Build is successful, that is sufficient quantities exist in inventory,
the Pick Ticket displays Work Order items, locations and quantities
to pull.
